Zero Energy Homes

The "ZEH (Zero Energy Home)" mentioned on this website is a housing concept promoted by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism based on the policy goal of "energy self-sufficiency through improved energy-saving performance and the use of renewable energy, resulting in a home with a net zero energy balance." It is not exactly the same as the general expression "net zero energy balance."

Wald is a “ZEH Builder”.

In the “Strategic Energy Plan (April 2014)”, the government aims for “standard new houses to achieve ZEH by 2020, and the average new house to achieve ZEH by 2030”.

ZEH is an acronym for Net Zero Energy House. It is defined as “a house aiming for a zero annual primary energy consumption balance by significantly improving the thermal insulation performance of the building envelope, achieving substantial energy savings while maintaining indoor environmental quality through the introduction of high-efficiency equipment systems, and introducing renewable energy (such as solar power generation)”. For the time being, Nearly ZEH is also included.

As one project to achieve the above goals, the Net Zero Energy House (ZEH) Support Project (subsidy program) is being implemented to promote its adoption. However, the design and construction for this subsidy program are limited to registered “ZEH Builders”.

“Registered ZEH Builders” are obligated to set targets and report annually. Therefore, Wald, as a registered ZEH builder, also publishes its ZEH dissemination targets and results.
